Set in the Pennine hills above Huddersfield, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, Marsden Golf Club is one of the most picturesque in Yorkshire, providing spectacular views over Butterley reservoir and the surrounding countryside.

With Winter League just two weeks old it is already apparent that it is going to be a highly competitive season. There are only two players with 100%, two wins from two games, as Alex Bull and Pete Doolan lead the way.
Last seasons champion Martin Sykes has had a shocking start with two losses in his opening two weeks, and is languishing near the bottom of the table.
There is still time to join, and make it into the top ten and the prizes. At just £25 for the entire season, including your prize giving dinner, you'd be daft not to join. Just come along to the club by 8.15 on any sunday morning (except the third sunday in the month which is reserved for a 4-man team) and join in the fun.

The clubs most eagerly awaited competition will start on Sunday 18th October 2009 and run every Sunday throughout the winter (except the third Sunday which is reserved for a four man team).
All male members are welcome and the annual cost is just £25 which includes a fantastic end-of-season meal and prizes down to tenth place.
All those in the clubhouse by 8:15am prompt each Sunday will be entered into the draw for their partner and opponents and the format is four-ball better-ball matchplay off 3/4 difference to the lowest handicap in the group.
Winning teams pick up five points, those drawing get three, and losers pick up a single point. All points are tallied throughout the season with a weekly league table published.
So get yourself to the clubhouse by 8:15 on the 18th October and you will be in the running to pick up the Winter League Claret Jug and the admiration of the whole club!
Captains week at Marsden started on Thursday night for the Junior event some splendid golf was played especially by the winner Richard Boothroyd with a fantastic 46pts seeing his handicap reduced by three to 16,Runner up was the Club's Junior Captain Ethan Shaw with 38pts and 3rd place went to Elliott Wood with 35pts.

Friday night saw the Mixed competition taking place over 15 holes again the competitors where blessed with fine weather after 15 holes the winners emerged as Mr. D. Shufflebotham & Mrs. B.Shufflebotham.

Saturday held the first round of the Captains Prize once again the sun was high and the conditions where good, tough pin placements made scoring difficult with only Nigel Thornton breaking par with a 86-20-66 total. Ethan Shaw, Nigel Brook & Danny Smith both carded level par net 68s with a host of chasers on 69 & 70
Sunday morning saw a couple of Saturday's chasers fall away at the first hurdle with scores of 11 & 9 being registered on the first hole. Again the course played tough with only three players breaking par.
Nigel Thornton carded a fine net 70 to go with his first round net 66, Junior Captain Ethan Shaw once again shot a net 68 with a costly drive on the 12th hole where he drove over the wall at the back of the green. However it was another junior 14 year old Corey 'Monty' Avison who added a fine net 66 to his first round net 70 to take home the overall prize.
