Saturday held the first round of the Captains Prize once again the sun was high and the conditions where good, tough pin placements made scoring difficult with only Nigel Thornton breaking par with a 86-20-66 total. Sunday morning saw a couple of Saturday's chasers fall away at the first hurdle with scores of 11 & 9 being registered on the first hole. Again the course played tough with only three players breaking par.
Nigel Thornton carded a fine net 70 to go with his first round net 66, Junior Captain Ethan Shaw once again shot a net 68 with a costly drive on the 12th hole where he drove over the wall at the back of the green. However it was another junior 14 year old Corey 'Monty' Avison who added a fine net 66 to his first round net 70 to take home the overall prize.
Named after the legendary Marsden Professional/Steward/Greenkeeper (from 1949) the prestigious A.J. Bickerdyke was won on saturday 25th July 2009 by one of the Marsden Chada Dynasty. Julian Chada carded a five under par net 63 to win the competition by one stroke on a day where the darkest of rain clouds mercifully passed over the course without troubling the waterproofs.
Congratulations to Nick Rider, Roy Haywood and Paul Coward who have all won through to their divisional finals in the prestigious R.T. Morley individual matchplay competition held every year by the Halifax & Huddersfield Rabbit Golfers Association.
With three of our players in the quarter finals lets hope that we can end up with at least one and if not both finalists for finals day to be held on the 27th September at Outlane.
A place in Marsden history awaits!
Despite some heavy showers Rabbit Captains Day was a great success with over 70 competitiors enjoying a good days golf. Overall winner was Paul Coward with a net 64 and best Tiger was Dean Whitwam with a net 65.
